Northern Orthopaedics Earns National Quality Recognition as a Patient-Centered Specialty Program

Northern Orthopaedics, a division of Northern Hospital of Surry County, has been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Level-3 Patient-Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP) for a three-year period, ending April 2022.

“This prestigious national recognition of Northern Orthopaedics reflects the ongoing dedication and commitment of our orthopaedic physicians, nurses and allied team members to provide patients with high-quality clinical treatment and therapy, as well as ongoing care-coordination,” said Chris A. Lumsden, President and Chief Executive Officer of Northern Hospital.

Under the medical leadership of board-certified orthopaedic surgeon Robert Williamson, MD, Northern Orthopaedics diagnoses and treats patients with a wide variety of orthopaedic ailments and conditions – including sports injuries, torn ligaments, fracture care, arthritis, shoulder-, hip- and knee-replacement surgeries, and carpal tunnel surgery.  “We are pleased that our patient-centered approach to care has been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, and we remain committed to further assessing and improving our approach and protocols so we continue to achieve the best possible clinical outcomes for patients,” said Dr. Williamson.

According to the National Committee for Quality Assurance, practices that become recognized under Patient-Centered Specialty Practice recognition have demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and clinical quality through streamlined referral processes and care coordination with referring clinicians, timely patient and caregiver-focused care management and continuous clinical quality improvement.

“NCQA Patient-Centered Specialty Practice recognition distinguishes practices that communicate, collaborate and integrate care in ways that patients want and that improve quality,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane.  “I commend the team at Northern Orthopaedics for its achievement, and for its commitment to continuous improvement.”

Northern Orthopaedics is located at 314 S. South Street, in Mount Airy, North Carolina. Patients may visit the office or call 336-719-0011 to schedule an appointment with an orthopaedic specialist.
