Surry County is located in the northwest Piedmont region, about 15 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Surry County offers recreational facilities, charming small towns with friendly residents, quaint downtown shopping, preserved history, festivals, and wineries. Visit the County’s website at www.co.surry.nc.us for more on Surry County.

Mount Airy, Andy Griffith’s hometown, retains its quaint small-town atmosphere while offering fine dining, a wide array of downtown shopping, and museums to explore.  The Visitors Center is located on Main Street at the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce Office.  Visit www.visitmayberry.com for more on exploring Mount Airy.

Pilot Mountain is home to Pilot Mountain State Park.  For outdoor enthusiasts, the park offers hiking trails, picnic and camping areas, canoeing, fishing, rock climbing, and an opportunity to explore nature. Geologically, Pilot Mountain is a quartzite monadnock, which began forming nearly a billion years ago.  The state-of-the-art Edward Armfield Civic and Recreation Center offers an indoor walking track, pool, and fitness center.

Dobson is the county seat of Surry County and home to county and state government offices.  Dobson is also the home of Surry Community College.  A visit to Dobson is not complete without a visit to Shelton Vineyards, which is the largest family-owned estate winery in North Carolina.

Elkin is the location of hometown charm, historic landmarks, and fine dining.  Elkin is the geographic center of the gorgeous Yadkin Valley, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Wine and music abound at annual festivals ranging from the internationally-renowned Merle Fest to the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival and Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival.

Patrick County, VA, is a 467-square-mile area that borders Surry County, NC, to the south. The area is located in the rolling Piedmont plateau and in the rugged Blue Ridge Mountains, where the Blue Ridge Parkway meets with Floyd and Carroll counties to the north and west. Patrick County is recognized as the birthplace of General J.E.B. Stuart, a renowned Civil War cavalryman.

Carroll County, VA, is located on the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia. Carroll County borders Patrick and Grayson Counties in Virginia and Surry County, NC. The County Seat, Hillsville, hosts the annual VFW Labor Day Gun Show and Flea Market, which attracts more than 300,000 people from across the country each year.
